Our dreams about future

Hello everyone!

Young people in Sweden usually want good grades so they can realize their dreams and it can be very stressful for us to just focus on school, because as you know, you also want time to hang out with family and friends and time and space for yourself. Many want to start their own businesses, become famous or make a career before marrige. In Sweden, people get married later because they want to live their own life first. We think like this:  we want to have more experience of life so we can become a good parent later. We want to party, travel and studying before marrige. We want to live our lives and discover the world first. There are many young people who want to study abroad or even work abroad. Many in Sweden also want to succeed with what they do in their free time, like football.  There are many young people today who have started to invest heavily in their interests outside of school.

Most of us want to live a real Svensson, Svensson life like we say in Sweden. It means: to have a good job, be married to a man who also has a good job there both work full time. Stay in a nice house that is nicely decorated with a garden that your children can be outside and playing on. Have a nice car and spend weekends and free time with their children or put them in different kinds of activities. Since you yourself keep running and working out, or maybe spending your free time with friends and family.  We want to find things on the weekends with the kids like going to the movies, to a playground where there are lot of children playing and lot of fun stuff for kids.

We also love go on holidays in the summer and even winter. Like a hot country in summer and maybe go skiing in another country or in Sweden. We also tend to go to a hot country in winters, like Thailand. It's very common for children families go there in the winter. Such a life would most Swedish adolescents have. First, everyone should live thier own lives, traveling, partying and having fun. After the school, then of course. Then you start working and after a while, then you want to start a family. Most of the Swedish young people dream of this kind of life. And do not believe now that all young people dream about this in Sweden. Some maybe want to marry young or not even want to start a family. But generally speaking, this is how we Swedish adolescents think when we think about the future. I do not know if this sounds completely normal for you or if there are differences in the details. You might think differently about the future? But it is in any case how we Swedish youth is seeing the future. Sure, all want different things and as I said earlier, it is generally said. In some countries, people get married young and have children before get 25 years. What has become very rare now, because you rather wait to have children because to be mature first, and in order to be able to take care of a child. I’m not originally from Sweden. I was born here but my parents are from Montenegro. There you see the future in a different way, you should preferably marry quite young and have a family. There is the case that the girl should stay home and take care of the household and the family while the man is working. It's not really like this in Sweden. The husband and wife works. In Montenegro, it is usually so that you do not take the training so seriously like we do in Sweden. The most important is the family.

We look forward to see how it is in your country and how you guys sees on the future.

This playground is called ”Leos Lekland”. I was talkning about that in the text. Kids love to be here, cause they meet other kids to play with and ”Leo’s lekland” have so much things for the kids like big slides.

This is the typical ”Svensson, svensson” house. This is like we want to live in the future. A big house, with two or three children and a good handsome husband.

Swedish norms/standards

There are many immigrants in Sweden, and because of that it can be difficult for many to understand the Swedish standards, it doesn’t have to do. But it can happen.

Like for example in the United States people usually don’t take off their shoes before entering someone's home.
But in Sweden you do that, you take off your shoes at the door. WHY? Because we like to keep it clean.
It is also usual to shake hands with people you haven’t met before, for exempel in a meeting, or if you're going to the dentist. The doctor usually always shake hands and say what name he or she has. And then you just do the same thing, you shake hands and say your name.

It’s important to be in time when you go to a meeting for example, you ususally go there 10 or 5 minutes earlier.
The people in Sweden are mostly nice, but we don’t get too close to someone we know and we aren’t very active when we’re talking. And with that I mean that we don’t really use body language. We keep a certain distance with other people we’re talking to. And we speak very quiet.

We also don’t talk to strangers, that’s something you learn when you are a kid.
For example if you sit on the bus and you see an old lady standing up because there is no place to sit, then someone usually go up and let the lady sit down instead.

I found some questions online about standards, one of the questions was "Where do you get standards from?" And a girl wrote that she got standards of her environment, such as parents, school, as daycare / preschool teachers.
And some special norms that she thought that people should follow was that you should be courteous and helpful.
I agree with her and I also think it must be modified to learn young people(teen-agers) to have more respect for older people, there are many who need to learn to respect people more, not just teen-agers. Because respect if very important in Sweden.
All are not equal, but I still think you should try.

I think it is important with standards it helps us know what is right or wrong. What would happen without them? Imagine if kids would throw snow balls on innocent old people just to have fun. But with the standards we have it doesn’t happen, well not what I’ve seen.

Divorce, child allowance and parental leave.

Hi there people!

We are going to tell you a little about how we in Sweden think about divorces, child allowance and parental leave.
We hope you'll enjoy it!

Divorces
In Sweden about 40 000 couples a year get married and 20 000 couples get a divorce. And with those numbers Sweden is the country with the most divorces in the world, according to the population. It’s also very common that people get a divorce just a few years after the wedding. But for the most of the time, the marriage lasts longer than that.
Over all, getting a divorce is not really a big deal, since divorcing is pretty common. If someone get a divorce it’s not like you get surprised. Of course people think it’s sad when it happens and most of the time they give their very best support.
We in sweden have, how to say, a free view of divorces. That kind of means that we don’t judge people to hard for getting a divorce. In many other countries in the world, you might  be separated from your family. But here, it is accepted to be in a divorce.
People how get divorce in a early age, often get remarried with a new partner.

Child allowance
By law every family with children have the right to get what we call ”child allowance”, every month. That meens that for every child you have you get 1050 sek. If you have more than 2 children you also get some extra money, for being able to take care of them and give them what the need. You get this grant until your child turn 16. When the children turn 16 it is no longer called child allowance but a ”study grant”. This grant you get as long as you go to school but no longer after you graduate from high school. If you doesn’t go to school, you want get the grant for that month.

Parental leave
If you give birth to a child in sweden you get parental leave.

By law you have the right to take out parental leave when the baby is born. Both mothers and fathers can take parental leave. You have the right to take out 480 days of parental leave,60 days are reserved for each of the parents. A father or the other parent has the right to 10 days with compensation when a baby is born. You also have the right to work shorter days as long as you have children who are under 8 years or the child has completed the first year of school.

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

Hello friends in Europe,

My name is Emma and I’m a teacher at Almåsgymnasiet, in a town called Borås, in Sweden.
Almåsgymnasiet is an upper secondary school with almost a thousand students. Our students are 16-19 years old. We have various vocational programmes such as the programme of nursing and health, the programme of handicraft (hairdressing, florist, make-up, tailoring), the programme of hotel/tourism and restaurant, the programme of business and administration, and the programme of child and recreation. I teach at the child and recreation programme.
The child and recreation programme is a vocational programme. With a diploma from the programme, students should have the knowledge needed to work with children, youth or adults in pedagogical and social vocational areas, or in the recreational or healthcare sectors. In the programme students should also be given opportunities to study courses preparatory for higher education in these areas.
One of my classes at the child and recreation programme is going to create this blog and tell you about the Swedish culture and their daily life. There are nineteen students in the class, seventeen female students and two male students. We hope that you will find the blog interesting. We are looking forward to read your blog as well.
Kind Regards,
Emma and my students Sofia, Tanja, Elin, Donja, Johanna, Marigona, Henisa, Emily, Millan, Hanna, Emelie, Sade, Simon, Liridona, Erik, Dzenita, Elin, Sara, Lina
